OSTEOARTHRITIS OR ARTHROSIS

Osteoarthritis or ArthrosisThe Osteoarthritis or arthrosis is a joint degenerative disease. Its origin is an injury or a defect in the protein where the cartilage is made of. When a person has osteoarthritis or arthrosis the cartilage wears out, causing joint pain and joint stiffness. The cartilage surface, that was once soft, it is hard now and produces friction, allowing the soft cartilage bones slide smoothly, but with so-called wear and cracks is filled with irregularities causing severe pain and immobility. The tendons, ligaments and muscles that support the joint become weak and deformed; joint becomes stiff, increasing the risk of fractures because osteoarthritis or arthrosis becomes brittle bones.

The figure shows the cartilage wear and friction of the joint

Osteoarthritis or Arthrosis Causes

Osteoarthritis or Arthrosis is the deterioration or loss of cartilage that acts as a protective cushion between bones, especially in weight-bearing joints such as knees and hips. Once the cartilage disappears, the bone rubbing against others form bony thorns, abnormal hardening areas and small fluid-filled cavities inside the bone.

Osteoarthritis or Arthrosis Symptoms

They are:
Joint deformity.
In some cases the discomfort is mild, in others the person is unable to do normal activities (joint stiffness and joint pain).
Joint pain after physical activity.
Joint stiffness (usually in the mornings)
